Dental Crowns

Getting a Dental Crown

Dental crowns are a way to protect a weak or damaged tooth but that isn’t all they are used for in oral health care. A dental crown is also used to place over an implant so you have a function and great looks after replacing a missing tooth. Our staff at Charisma Dental can help you understand what happens when you get a crown and install one that fits with your smile!

When Crowns Are Needed

Crowns are needed in several types of situations to either protect a tooth, prevent infection, or make your smile look better.

They are often used to cover a tooth after you have a root canal to remove a serious infection. A crown covering the entire tooth prevents the infection from reoccurring.

They are also used to prevent weak teeth from breaking or to replace a missing tooth in an implant.

Gold crowns still exist but there are other options that look like your natural teeth. Gold is still the most durable substance for crowns and works well on back teeth to provide durable function, but they aren’t your only choice.

What Are Dental Crowns Made Of?

Today, dental crowns can be crafted from a variety of materials including

Each has its own lifespan, cost, and attributes so it pays to do some research and talk to your Charisma dentist about your options.

Customized Crowns

Crowns have always been customized to fit your tooth. We will make impressions of your teeth to get it right.

Typically, the crown is installed on a second visit two weeks later after a lab has crafted it from the impressions but that time frame can be reduced now with modern technology and onsite labs.
